Renewable energy remains a growth area despite the global recession reducing general demand for energy and prices being considerably lower than when they peaked. While some organisations may have cut back on their research into and development of renewable energies, others remain very active. Compared with conventional power generation systems, those using renewable technologies are far from being mature, which means that successful research and development can be extremely rewarding. And not only is it a matter of refining existing technologies, but there are some areas - such as solar power - where it is thought that new technologies could deliver a step change in the cost-per-watt for the power generated. |

John C.S. Lau , President & Chief Executive Officer of Husky Energy Inc. (TSX:HSE), is pleased to announce that Husky Oil China Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Husky Energy, has made another significant gas discovery on Block 29/26 in the South China Sea.
The LH34-2-1 and LW3-1-1 exploration wells are Husky's significant gas discoveries on Block 29/26 in the South China Sea.
The West Hercules deepwater drilling rig recently completed the drilling and testing of the LH 34-2-1 exploration well. This well was drilled 23 kilometres northeast of the Liwan 3-1 Gas Field in a water depth of 1145 metres and encountered a significant thickness of excellent quality, gas charged reservoir. The well tested natural gas, with a high liquids yield, at an equipment restricted rate of 55 million cubic feet (mmcf) per day, with indications that the well's future deliverability could exceed 140 mmcf per day. The well is similar in character to the Liwan 3-1 wells. |

They were ignored until Dr. O'Connor started taking his concerns to a bigger audience. After that, Dr. O'Connor faced a lot of vitriole, and had complaints lodged against him by his colleagues working at Health Canada. Thanks to Dr. O'Connor's efforts, the government of Alberta finally undertook a study of cancer rates in Fort Chipewyan, finding that what Dr. O'Connor said was true - there was a higher incidence of cancer than expected. Since then, Dr. O'Connor was cleared by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta when they dismissed the complaints against him. But even after all that, the only action that has been promised to the people of Fort Chipewyan is further research into the cancer rates. |
