Rule-of-thumb to gage suitability of Plate-Heat-Exchanger in Fluid-Contains-solid or Slurry

Hi there,
Something learnt days ago and copied over from my site to share within our community...
Plate Heat Exchanger having narrow channel most probably "not recommended" for fluid contains solid and/or slurry services. However, there are still many success story of using PHE in abovementioned services.

i) 80% of the particles are less than 70% of the interplate gap on the heat exchanger.

ii) 100% of the particles are less than 90% of the interplate gap
iii) Flowing velocity is below erosional velocity (causes premature plate failure)
iv) The minimum wall temperature is above a point where crystal growth is expected.

Global Top 50

FOR THE FOURTH YEAR RUNNING, Dow Chemical and BASF are the leading two companies in C&EN's survey of the global Top 50 chemical companies . And for the fourth year running, in what has become a good-natured but intense rivalry, Dow leads BASF, although the two companies' chemical sales differ by less than 2%.No surprises there. And no surprises, either, in the presence of the chemical businesses of oil giants Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil, China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec), and Total in the top 10. A surprise did come in, though, with the dramatic entry into the top five of Ineos Group, which has been cobbled together by a string of major acquisitions.

Process Control: Don’t forget the engineers

You may have noticed a recurring theme in my editorials of late. In recent weeks, I’ve been to the Expertune/TiPs Users Conference, ABB’s Automation World, ARC’s Forum, and the Invensys Process Systems Customer Conference.

After these events, I reported how speakers talked about extracting useful data from the process control system for optimization, financial purposes, plant economics, collaborative manufacturing strategies, and so on.
