A month later, on 12 October, it will be 150th anniversary of the death of another engineering genius, Robert Stephenson, who built the London and Birmingham Railway - the first main line railway to reach London - and much more, too. Special events are planned to mark these anniversaries. |

A macho culture of managers working long-hours and sexual harassment on sites is discouraging women from taking the top jobs in construction. Dr Jacqueline Watts of the Open University interviewed 26 women in the UK who were or had once been in construction management. All said they were unhappy with either the struggle to balance their family and work lives or the sexist attitudes they experienced on site. |

Petri Corse’s Fabio Babini and Claudio Rossetto secured the round 10 victory in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series at Silverstone, UK, on 15 August 2009.
Babini secured pole position after setting a fastest lap of 1:23.150 early on in this morning’s 30-minute qualifying session. It’s the team’s second pole position of the season, having set the fastest lap at the Super Trofeo’s inaugural race weekend in Adria, Italy. |
