They have a sort of basic, animal feel about them, these big old lumps of metal - we tend to take them for granted these days - we feed some figures into a computer program and the answers pop out - but years ago, when they were all being designed by hand calcs and probably by slide rule - they would have been quite something - and the fact that they are still standing today says big things for the engineers who designed them - great to see

I love height and yes, these cranes are great because when you get up there, without a building around you, there is a real adrenalin rush. I'm not into base jumping but can appreciate the feeling that those who are must get

I've done a fair bit of crane work - up top - and the best part is on a breezy day - not supposed to go up when it's windy but even a small breeze can get a good sway on and the adrenalin rush is something else

cranes are a fairly basic and fundamental piece of engineering equipment and have been around in various forms since the year dot - personally I'm happy to keep my feet on terra firma and admire them from a distance - but hey - if thats your buzz - go for it - I always make sure that I don't stand underneath - as you never know WHAT might drop
