Load shedding bad for substations

Did you know Trivia - Eskom’s claims that load shedding was not damaging substations and power infrastructure may actually be true, say experts.
They say that Eskom’s equipment is able to withstand the load shedding — as long as it is adequately maintained.
Jan Reynders, Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at Wits University, said: “Load shedding should not be regarded as an abnormal operation.
“When you shed load all you do is operate a switch in a substation. All equipment in the substations is intended to operate under these conditions.
