The term "skyscraper" was coined in the 1880s, shortly after the first
tall buildings were constructed in the United States -- but the history
of tall buildings dates back hundreds of years. Since the Middle Ages,
engineers have engaged in a battle for the sky.
"A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a
person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as
possible" - Freeman Dyson
