I was born September 29th 1935 in Ferriday, Louisiana
I played piano in my youth with my cousins Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart
I developed my own style mixing R&B, Boogie, Gospel and Country
I was expelled from the Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie Texas for playing a boogie woogie rendition of "My God is Real" at a church assembly
I then played at clubs in and around Ferriday and Natchez Mississippi becoming part of the new rock and roll sound
I cut my first demo record in 1954
In Nov 1956 I auditioned  for Sun Records in Memphis Tennessee, I recorded as a solo artist and played as a session musician for many established artists
I am famous for kicking the piano stool out of the way and playing standing up
I recorded hit singles including "Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On" and "Great Balls of Fire"
