I was born July 26th 1925 in Highland Park, Michigan
I left home at age 15 with a guitar and little else
For the next few years I  led a rough life working with whatever musical bands I could find
I eventually got a job with a popular group known as the "Down Homers" whilst they were in Hartford Connecticut but left to pursue a career of my own
I was a musical director of radio station WPWA in Chester , Pennsylvania and had my own band during this period
My band were the Saddlemen reflecting my leanings to a tough Western style
We played the clubs and radio around Philadelphia and made our first recording in 1951
During the Labour Day weekend in 1952 my band was renamed and in 1953 our recording of "Crazy Man,Crazy" became the first rock and roll song to hit the American charts

I scored a major world wide hit with a cover version of Big Joe Turners "Shake, Rattle and Roll"
This song became the first ever rock n roll song to enter the British singles charts in Dec 1954
I was an alcoholic and died February 9th 1981 aged 55
I am best known as being the father of Rock n Roll
Probably my best known recording is "Rock Around The Clock" which was the first record to sell over one million copies in both Britain and Germany
