Fluor announced that it was awarded a contract to perform front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for Santos' Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas (GLNG) Upstream Project in Queensland, Australia.
The company booked the $16 million contract in its second quarter of 2009.
"This is truly a unique engineering opportunity for Fluor and we are honored to work with Santos on the FEED phase of this milestone project in Australia," said Peter Oosterveer, president of Fluor's Energy & Chemicals Group. "The Fluor team stands ready to assist Santos in what will be the world's first project to convert coal-seam gas to liquefied natural gas."

Woodside Petroleum Ltd ., operator of the A$12 billion ($9.8 billion) Pluto liquefied natural gas project in Western Australia, may award a design and engineering contract for an expansion of the venture by the end of September.
An agreement is expected in the third quarter, subject to talks with potential suppliers of gas that will underpin the expansion, Woodside said today. Discussions with a number of parties are progressing, Roger Martin, a Perth-based spokesman, said by phone.

An estimated 625 fixed offshore platforms are under construction or planned for installation in coming years, according to ODS-Petrodata's online Offshore Construction Locator market intelligence tool.
Regions focusing on deepwater, such as West Africa and the U.S. Gulf, may not be seeing as much fixed platform construction activity as in the past, but other areas are picking up the slack. Southeast Asia leads the fixed platform market, with 162 platforms under construction or being planned.

SANTOS is close to signing the first offtake deal for its $8 billion Gladstone liquefied natural gas project as regional gas export customers try to lock in buyers.
Discussions with an Asian customer were at an advanced stage, Santos said yesterday.
"While there is no guarantee that an agreement will be concluded, the discussions are progressing well and there is the prospect that a final agreement will be reached in the near future," Santos said.

Iran is pushing ahead with plans to pump and export more gas, and could award contracts to build a cross-border pipeline to Pakistan and develop another phase of its biggest offshore gasfield in coming weeks.
