US recalls 440,000 lead-tainted Chinese-made toys

 So the scary stuff would have really been scary stuff

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US authorities recalled some 440,000 Chinese-made toys Wednesday because of high levels of lead , just hours before US children were set to use some of them while celebrating Halloween.

We may ask - Are the Standards and Engineering Specifications being supplied or being disregarded ?

I don't knew the facts - so probably shouldn't comment, but what sort of verification and testing procedure do these importers have ?

If I'm buying from a questionable source and the purchasing decision has been made on price then I would make sure that there was a very tight specification and verification at key stages - It strikes me that everyone is on the bandwagon to blame the Chinese - but where are the specs ??

I have had dealings with Chinese suppliers and quite frankly, don't assume anything - get it documented and verified and have a very tight inspection procedure. Nice people - but hopeless when it comes to quality control or an understanding of what QC actually means

Couldn't agree more - very nice people who will tell you exactly what you want to hear - that will probably have no bearing on what actually happens in the manufacturing plant

We get a bit brainwashed into thinking that they have a system much like ours - the reality is - it's very different and so is the culture, so work out what you want and what they can actually deliver

As noted initially - we don't have all of the facts and so don't know the full story - would I buy Chinese - probably not - if there was an alternative - the problem is that everybody is closing down and moving to the cheap labor countries, so there is no alternative !!!!

It's very sad when the things our kids eat, wear and play with can make them sick. I check www.leadtoyrecalls.com to make sure I am on top of all the latest lead recalls. I get an email alert from them automatically whenever there is a new recall.
