Progress at Qatar Oryx Gas to Liquids Plant

Petrochemicals giant Sasol has advised that there is significant progress being  made to improve operations at the Oryx plant gas-to-liquids joint venture, in Qatar

Technical and engineering difficulties where encounterded in the first part of this year due to higher-than-expected levels of fine material being produced in the Fischer-Tropsch process.

just another tweak of the same hydrocarbon energy source - but not the quantum leap we need to get out of the fossil fuel cycle

I don't like using fossil fuels or oil based products either - but what do we do ? - at least there is some recognition and moves to improve in a whole range of areas and gas is a bit better option - not a lot of fun on a bicycle when the snow is falling and the wind is blowing

it's a changing world and we need to change with it- technologies like this have been around for a relatively long time, but the economies of using them didn't make sense when oil was a lot cheaper - but now the pendulun is swinging - a fair investment in dollar terms but the returns are looking good

I guess that we where on the slippery slope and going down at an increasing rate, but my gut feel is that the brakes are being applied and we are slowing out rate of descent by cleaning up our act, using cleaner burning fuels like low sulpher and better efficiencies in our vehicles, plants and equipment and gas conversion is another way to stretch those resources which are rapidly being depleted

if I had anything to do with anything those resources would be depleted a lot quicker - close them all down sooner rather than try and stretch them out forever - that way the world economies will move a lot quicker to find cleaner alternatives - at the moment - everything is "yes" but we'll do it next year - lets put the pressure on to do it NOW !!
