Seniors to benefit from Toyota and Nintendo Prof games wizard

Clipped to the Drawing Board by Dave Ellery

Prof. Ryuta Kawashima, who helped develop Nintendo's "Brain Age" games, is teaming up with Toyota to develop intelligent cars that will help seniors drive safely, the researcher said on Tuesday.

"We envision future cars will be able to monitor brain and emotional activity to back up elderly drivers," said Kawashima, a Tohoku University scientist who worked on Nintendo's best-selling "Brain Age" games - and whose smiling image is the guide in the series.

for anyone saying - what's this all about - the attached link goes to an article which gives an overview of the Brain Age game - interesting concept and an interesting direction to go with this - dare I say "technology"

as the average age of the population in most western countries gets older then it follows that there are going to be a lot more older drivers on the roads - so i can see where this is all coming from - probably benefit quite a few younger drivers as well - good in concept - but could it actually work - it all looks a bit gimmicky to me

i saw this comment on a site - "Toyota spokeswoman Kayo Doi confirmed that company engineers were working with Tohuku University but is not yet ready to announce any specific technologies.

Kawashima said that he could not give any further details on this project until it has fully taken up."
don't know what that means - top secret?
still at first base? just flying a few kites to see if theres any interest - watch this space ! dunno i guess that we will have to wait and see

older drivers are a hazard - but what do yo do? - take their licenses off them - maybe this could work - just a matter of getting into a routine - "take the daily pills and do the brain exercises" at the same time - yeah - i'm sure they would soon get it sorted out ok
