About Us

We're living in exciting times where Engineers and Manufacturing professionals of all disciplines are changing the way we live,  mostly for the better.

The media can only go so far in reporting engineering news, and that's where you come in. You are a professional with knowledge and opinions, and can see the world from a different perspective. Share those views.

The Drawing Board

The Drawing Board is where it all happens.  Articles,  reviews and questions make up the inspiration.  Your comments create the actual product.  So get involved and be a part of making something great.  Articles on the drawing board are normally just a snippet of the actual article.  Part of it will be linked and will take you to site which has the full article.  We do not write the articles,  we just provide a listing of the most interesting articles that have been found.

Clip articles to the Drawing Board

Do you know of something interesting that has happened? Has your company just embarked on a grand new project or released a revolutionary product? As a member you have the ability to suggest the news that shows up on the site.  Even if you didn't write the article you can still suggest it. You are directly involved in defining the content.

Clip reviews to the Drawing Board

New software, tools, books etc are always being released and for the benefit of the engineering community in general. If you have a review then why not share it with the community.

Clip questions to the Drawing Board

You have a curious mind; discuss what's on it with other professionals who share your level of knowledge and experience.

Offer your 2 cents

Speak out on breaking news and in-depth articles. Use your unique experience and knowledge to give other engineers new perspective, to help us all learn, or to ask the questions that get us to the heart of the issues.

We're a strong community; let's learn and have fun together. Your opinions and knowledge shown here can change the opinions of others throughout the industry. Register today and contribute your views on the news.

Class

Our community has class!! That's very true but that's not what we're talking about here.  What we're talking about here is the class structure that our members attain.  It's a means of telling how valuable a user is in our community.  Your status can increase by various means,  eg. posting comments,  having those comments voted favorably by others,  suggesting articles etc.  You can also lose class by various means also,  eg.  negative votes to comments.

We're not going to tell you what the exact figures are but we'll give you a rundown on what the various classes represent:

  • Newbie - you're new here or you're just not very classy.

  • Junior board member - you've proved yourself and you're moving up

  • Senior board member - you're doing pretty well and are contributing to the community

  • Cheif engineer - you are contributing frequently and you're input is valued

  • Guru - you deserve the utmost respect.  You have contributed greatly to the community and have a good deal of knowledge and experience that you are happily sharing.

It's also worth noting that the higher your class the more influence you will have on the Grid but we'll release more details on that shortly.

Next to your name when you post comments is also a number.  This number represents the order in which people became members of the community.  It's a means of guestimating whether you became a part of this community before it became cool or not.  Some people will also respect you more the earlier you signed up.  Why?  Who knows,  they just do.  So the earlier you sign up the better. ie,  if you haven't done so already you really should.
